Armenian Website Prize SARD 99 The Armenian Website Prize SARD 99 has already started! All ArmFN users are most welcome to submit their websites. Excellent and unprecedented prizes (financial and other) are awaiting the winners of SARD 99! Complete information on SARD 99 is contained under http://www.webmasters.am.
We are pleased to inform you that thanks to excellent cooperation between Arminco Global Telecommunications and ArmFN, a direct connection between our networks was established thus enabling immediate email delivery and speedy access to all websites hosted by Arminco.
We are also pleased to inform you about a package of improvements that we have made in the ArmFN services.
- The first such improvement is that it is now possible to get information about any ArmFN user by means of our new WebFinger /Finger.html
- Another important improvement concerns ArmFN users who are working through WWW interface and/or POP3. You well know that it was impossible to receive mail in cases when the size of incoming mailbox exceeded half of the disk quota. We have modified the server software accordingly and now
this problem has disappeared.
- Then, we have increased the RAM of our ArmFN server which has significantly improved its performance and allowed for faster and efficient processing of email correspondence. Soon, we are planning to make yet another upgrade that would make the ArmFN server the most powerful in Armenia!
- The next improvement mostly concerns telnet users and is that they are now able to "kill" zombie terminals by using a new "killme" command available through telnet. Zombie terminals is a phenomenon of hung connection due to low quality of telephone lines in Armenia.
- Last but not least, due to increasing number of ArmFN users' websites, the need for CGI scripts is also increasing. Due to security reasons, CGI scripts can be installed only by ArmFN administration after appropriate review.
Some modification were also made to the dial-up access via telephone lines. You are all aware that until recently, the dial-up access was possible through telephone number 56902x and 001. The 001 line was provided by ACC in the framework of an agreement on joint usage of the dial-up access point. Due to changed arrangement, ACC now is completely separate from ArmFN and thus the 001 line is no longer available for ArmFN access.
AT THE SAME TIME, we are hardly working on acquisition of more telephone lines for dial-up access and hope that soon will be able to offer you more dial-up opportunities.
Finally, we would like to kindly remind all ArmFN users that ArmFN administration DOES NOT provide technical support. Please try to make effective use of the FAQ available on the ArmFN which was prepared specifically for the purpose of addressing technical issues and problems. View all the News
